With their marriage hanging on by a thread, there was a glimmer of hope for Married At First Sight couple Dave Hand and Jamie Marinos this week.

After an awkward Home Stay episode on Monday that saw Dave being grilled by Jamie’s sister about his intentions, it was the groom’s turn on Tuesday.

But far from an awkward grilling, Jamie was welcomed with open arms by Dave’s father Howard, step-mum Karen and step sister Cara.

It was an emotional reunion for Dave as well, who hadn’t seen his father since before his reality TV wedding.

‘I’m excited,’ Dave told producers before the meeting.

‘I’m about to see my Dad for the first time in a while. This is weeks in the making of coming to this point where I can introduce Jamie to someone special to me.’

Dave then revealed that the reason Howard missed out on the nuptials was that he was undergoing chemotherapy.

The groom was then shown on his wedding day sitting alone and facetiming with Karen and Howard.

‘I wish my dad was well enough to come to the wedding,’ he said. He’d just started chemo for the fourth time

Following the pre-wedding chat, a clearly emotional Dave said: ‘It’s hard when you see your parents like that.’

Dave then admitted that his father’s cancer battle had taken a personal toll over the last for years.

‘Seeing dad over the last four years it sort of does take a lot out of me,’ he said. ‘You take it all on board.’

‘So, this visit hopefully is a bit different. I got some news about him yesterday but I haven’t spoken to him yet, so it’ll be good to see him.’

After a happy introduction, the family sat down at the table to hear Howard deliver his news.

‘There was three tumours, two tumors have shrunk and the third tumour has gone,’ Howard revealed.’

‘Another four doses should hopefully clean it up. Something’s finally working.’

Dave said that he was over the moon with the good news.

‘I’m so glad that my dad’s turned the corner – he’s been on my mind since day one,’ he said.

‘Seeing him with a bit more pep in his step, I’m super, super happy. I’m a bit emotional but happy.’

The news also helped lower Dave’s emotional walls, praising his bride for how she had dealt with his father’s cancer battle.

‘Jamie’s made it easy as well,’ Dave told the his family. ‘She understands that she doesn’t put pressure on those areas at all.’

 While many, Jamie included have been questioning if Dave can ever reach the ‘love’ stage with his bride, the man that knows him best seemed more sure.

‘I was wrapped to finally meet Jamie and she’s wonderful,’ Howard said.

‘He’s very happy you can tell. It makes you feel good.’

Jamie also left the family meeting with a renewed sense of hope for success in her troubled relationship.

‘It just really showed that he is trying to turn it around,’ she said.

‘I feel optimistic and hopeful about the future with Dave.’
