After arguing with a majority of their co-stars at the couples retreat, Married At First Sight’s Lauren Hall and Clint Rice decided to leave the experiment in Sunday night’s episode. The pair teased that they might build on their initial spark in the real world away from the other brides and grooms, who Lauren referred to as “zoo animals” during the commitment ceremony.

As most fans already know, nothing eventuated between Lauren and Clint as he has since moved on with Jacqui Burfoot. The pair grew close towards the end of filming and are currently living together in his mansion in Tasmania.

However, before Lauren and Clint bid goodbye to the experiment, Yahoo Lifestyle can reveal that they made one secret outing that left producers “furious”.

The pair were caught sneaking away from their apartment building to attend an influencer gifting event for an activewear brand, using their newfound status as reality stars to secure freebies before quitting the show and returning to their regular lives.

In pictures taken on September 13, Lauren and Clint were spotted stocking up before returning to set with bags full of free clothes worth thousands of dollars. The intruders weren’t the only cast members reaping the benefits of their incoming fame as Jacqui Burfoot, Rhi Disljenkovic and Jeff Gobbels attended a similar influencer event in August.

A production source tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the repeat incidents “angered” bosses as they “threatened the integrity of the show” by “fuelling the narrative the participants are not here for the right reasons”.

While the controversial couple chose to quit the reality show in Sunday night’s episode, Clint recently told Yahoo Lifestyle that he and Lauren almost left during the couples retreat. The pro golfer and business owner revealed he actually tried to organise a helicopter for them to “escape” the property and stay somewhere else.

“We’d had enough at that point and we were like, ‘F**k it’. We woke up literally the first morning and I was feeling a little bit under the weather, and we were like, ‘Let’s get our own Airbnb’,” he detailed.

Clint said he secretly contacted a helicopter pilot that he knew to come and pick them up from the house they were staying at with the rest of the cast.

“So we went outside, literally walking around the grounds trying to find a big enough space to land the helicopter. And then the pilot was like, ‘Actually, I need permission from the owners of the Airbnb that you’re in’,” he shared.

“We were like, ‘F**k, we can’t get that’. So then we were trying to organise for it to land elsewhere, but it all just sort of then closed in on us and production found out and it got messy from there.”
