Married at First Sight Australia has always been a magnet for drama, and the season 12 contestants didn’t wait for the show’s Australian premiere to stir the pot.
The much-talked-about reality series, which kicks off tonight (March 3) in the UK, stipulates that participants hand over control of their Instagram accounts during filming and while the show is on air.
However, Daily Mail Australia reports that some contestants were less than thrilled about surrendering their passwords, possibly due to dissatisfaction with the outcomes of their marriages.
Business owner Lauren Hall, aged 37, was embroiled in the controversy when she decided against providing details of her social media accounts after her on-air marriage quickly turned sour.

A friend told the Daily Mail that Lauren entered the show with honest intentions, seeking love rather than fame. The source claimed: “She genuinely went on the show hoping to meet someone she wouldn’t come across in her usual circles, but she quickly realised the whole thing was a farce. She’s not about chasing clout like some of the others.
“And the experts? Don’t even get her started, they were just parroting whatever the producers fed them through an earpiece.”
Lauren, known for her strong-willed nature, reportedly had a swift falling out with her husband Eliot Donovan after they married on the show. Production insiders have revealed that he booked his flight home even before they checked into their honeymoon suite.
A source was quoted as saying: “He didn’t give her a chance and made it clear he wanted out. By the next morning, it was like, “I’m done,” and he walked away without so much as a second thought.”

Another contestant expressing discontent with the show is 39 year old groom Tim Gromie. The Melbourne-based teacher was reluctant to share his social media details, feeling that he’s was set up by the show. A close friend said: “Tim felt completely betrayed by the so-called ‘experts’.”
The show’s Australian fans were displeased with how Tim treated his wife Katie Johnstone, following a series of harsh remarks he made towards her. He has since removed his social media presence and declined interview requests.
Morena Farina, a 57 year old DJ and mother of two, has also run afoul of the producer’s regulations. As she uses social media to advertise her wedding DJ business, she’s been sharing photos and updates about her life while the show is still being broadcast.

Despite several warnings from producers, Morena continued to use her business account to post not only DJ-related content but also hints about her personal life after the show.
