Things went from bad to worse for Married At First Sight couple Ryan Donnelly and Jacqui Burfoot as their Homestay Week continued on Tuesday night.
Jacqui welcomed Ryan into her pristine Manly apartment during Monday’s episode, but this time it was Ryan’s turn to play host.
Ryan was excited to show off his home, which he said he worked hard to buy, to Jacqui in Sydney‘s south west, but the bride was left in tears after seeing how her husband lived.
‘I want to make sure Jacqui sees me in my most natural environment. I’m going to show here the best of what I’ve made for myself,’ Ryan told producers.
He did offered the caveat it would be a potential deal breaker if Jacqui was not impressed with his digs.
‘I did work very hard to get this place,’ he said.

‘If she’s not accepting of it, this relationship can’t progress.’
Jacqui, too, seemed excited to gain some further insight into her groom, telling producers: ‘I’m definitely excited to see some of Ryan’s stuff.’
It started off positively enough with Ryan and his pooch Reya enjoying a heartwarming reunion.
However, Jacqui’s excitement quickly turned to horror, and then tears, when Jacqui was confronted with the interiors of Ryan’s house.
As Ryan took Jacqui on a tour of his house she was left visibly upset at his choice of décor.
A skull goblet filled with junk could be seen resting on a table along with another skull, dreadlocked and smoking a joint.
He then made special mention of a Japanese sword that took pride of place on a table.
‘That’s a 250 year old Edo period katana,’ he boasted.

‘As you can tell I’m pretty passionate about this type of stuff.’
The artifact did not resonate with Jacqui nor did Ryan’s blank ‘vision board’, and display of memories from his global travels.
As he took Jacqui into what appeared to be the living room, he was quick to point out a large display shelf overflowing with trinkets.
‘This room, this is basically Ryan’s room,’ he said proudly, before motioning toward the display.
‘So, for example if you look over here, that’s when I did the massive tour, its got a symbol from every country.
‘So, that stein is from Germany. There’s an Eiffel Tower and a sword from the tower of London.’
Sensing Jacqui’s discomfort, Ryan added: ‘It’s not quite hoarding. It’s memories.’
Clearly unimpressed with Ryan’s collection of international knick knacks, Jacqui bizarrely burst into tears when recounting the experience to producers.

‘I just feel bad for Ryan. It was eye-opening to see his home,’ she said as the tears started to flow.
‘I just think he’s been alone here for seven years and maybe he isn’t aware of how lonely he is.
‘It really reminds me of the elderly, because a lot of the elderly live in homes where there alone for seven, 10, 15 years.’
Jacqui then condescendingly praised Ryan for being proud of his home and its contents.
‘It was so sweet of him to be so confident and so happy to bring me in,’ she said.
Later in the episode, Jacqui set herself the task of rearranging Ryan’s life while he nipped out to the shops.
She quickly filled up Ryan’s ‘vision board’ with tasks for him to complete, including washing his sheets and restocking toothpaste.

While he appeared to take it all in good humour to avoid yet another confrontation with his bride, it was a different story when chatting to producers.
‘We’ve been butting heads back and forth and that does drain you,’ he said to camera.
‘I’m still here keeping open and optimistic, but if she’s going to keep trying to change who I am it’s really hard to see that future.’
Before the episode aired, Jacqui described Ryan’s home as ‘grotty’ in an Instagram post, and defended the fact producers were forced to hire her an Airbnb rental to film his visit to ‘her Manly apartment’ after discovering her flat was too small and she lived with two housemates.
