Furious Married At First Sight viewers have slammed Channel Nine, questioning why controversial groom Adrian Araouzou is allowed to remain on the show after displaying controlling behaviour towards his bride Awhina Rutene.

During Sunday night’s commitment ceremony, Adrian repeatedly instructed Awhina what to say prior to their turn on the couch.

Once in front of the experts, the controversial groom continued his controlling behaviour, cutting Awhina off as she tried to speak.

Following the episode, viewers took to social media to question why Adrian was not pulled up on his conduct while fellow groom Paul Antoine was officially put on notice for his violent outburst last week.

Viewers flooded Facebook page Tea Time to chastise the reality star and producers, with one fan claiming it was hypocritical of producers to allow Adrian’s actions.

‘Adrian and his coercive control over Awhina and her even writing stay. I’m not sure I can continue watching this season either because of the amount of abuse that has occurred – the show needs to be axed at this point,’ one wrote.

Another chimed in with an equally acerbic: ‘And them not holding Adrian accountable for anything. He’s psychologically abusing her and they [producers] had nothing to say about it.

They added: ‘Dave has more to say, like WTF,’ referencing Dave Hand telling Adrian: ‘She looks at you for permission to speak.’

Yet another jumped in also admitting they were ‘triggered’ by the experts’ apparent acceptance of Adrian’s behaviour.

‘I am personally much more triggered over how accepting they are on Adrian’s behaviour,’ they commented.

‘Both these men [Adrian and Paul] should be kicked off the show. It’s disgusting.’

It didn’t end there either, with another viewer sharing that they were more angry with Adrian, adding that at least Paul fronted up to his outburst.

‘I am way angrier about Adrian’s behaviour,’ they wrote.

‘At least Paul has the guts to admit he was in the wrong and potentially move forward and rectify his behaviour.

‘Adrian just sits there with his s***-eating grin getting away with coercive abuse. It’s made me furious.’

Another angry viewer shared they were ‘scared’ by Adrian’s behaviour, while praising Dave for publicly speaking out.

‘Adrian honestly scares me the most,’ they wrote.

‘He is so manipulative, telling Awhina not to say things, and you can just see her light is getting snubbed out.

‘She looks so scared of Adrian and how he will react. Then him smiling and being all cocky because she said: “stay”.

‘Props to Dave. I literally love this guy. Calls out all the BS abuse.’

During Sunday night’s commitment ceremony, Adrian was adamant that Awhina should stay quiet about their family day, but she wasn’t having it – she pushed back hard, making it clear that he doesn’t control what she says.

When they finally sat on the couch, the tension was unbearable.

Adrian repeatedly spoke over Awhina or cut her off completely, apparently fearful of what she might say to experts John Aiken, Mel Schilling, and Alessandra Rampolla.

This prompted groom Dave Hand to shout: ‘She looks at you for permission to speak, mate. Ask her.’

Awhina then jumped in with:  ‘It’s not that I feel like I need permission.

‘It’s that sometimes, I feel like it’ll cause a rift between us if I delve into too much details about certain things and I don’t want to hurt Adrian’s feelings.’

John Aitken then asked Awhina what it was about Adrian that she liked – a question he had to repeat multiple times – as she struggled for an answer.

She eventually shared that she was fond of the way Adrian sometimes looks at her and the respect he has for his family.

Much to he shock of fellow brides and grooms, and the viewing public, Awhina opted to continue with Adrian in the experiment.

It comes after Josh Fox, who runs the MAFS Funny Instagram account revealed the shocking way Awhina learned of her groom past domestic violence charges.

The former KIIS FM radio producer described the actions of MAFS bosses as ‘shocking’, ‘inexcusable,’ and ‘negligent’ on Friday.
