I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, Married At First Sight (MAFS) is truly the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to reality TV drama because fans (plus, myself) are lapping up the implosion of Carina Mirabile and Paul Antoine‘s relationship, and the bloody MAFS editing.

To give you a quick recap on the drama between Carina and Paul, last night’s episode revealed that the controversial groom had previously dated Awhina Rutene‘s twin sister, Cleo Rutene.

The confession was brought to light ahead of MAFS‘ couple swap challenge as Paul was assigned to team up with Awhina for the next three days, which left a sour taste in Carina’s mouth.

During Paul and Awhina’s time together, the groom shared in his honesty letter that he got the “ick” from Carina who made an off-camera comment about Cleo’s calibre to Paul.

Paul went on to say the comment made him perceive Carina as a “snob”.

Naturally, Awhina was shook to the core with Carina’s “calibre” comment, telling producers she would be holding her friend accountable.

“I’m really pissed off,” Awhina said.

“Carina and I had a good friendship. We were texting. We were supposed to go on a double date. So, to know she’s made calibre comments about my twin sister, which extends to me, that is so wrong. Trust me, I’m not gonna let her get away with it.”

Right off the heels of the partner swap week, Carina finally returned to her husband. After some mushy, mushy love stuff, the MAFS gods decided to wreak havoc on the pair by making them read out their honesty letters to each other.

Immediately, Paul — in the words of Nicki Minaj — is scared, shook, PANICKING. He’s got the nervous giggles and Carina pointed out his concerning behaviour because she is an observant girlie.

When Carina asked why he was so nervous, the MAFS editors decided to play flashbacks of Paul reading out his letter to Awhina, where he called his wife a “bit of a snob” and that she “comes across as very judgy”.

Eventually, Paul bucks up the courage to come clean about his letter. But before he could get into the thick of it, he prefaces Carina about the struggles of Feeback Week in an attempt to lessen the blow.

“Well this will be interesting,” Paul began.

“Uhhh oh well. This whole Feedback Week has probably been the most challenging one out of every single task that we’ve had to do so far. Yeah, it’s not easy because we’re so deeeeeeeeeep into the experiment. I feel like it’s harder to bring things up.”

ANYWAYS, here’s what he finally began to read and Carina looked horrified with what he had to say.

“Before coming into this experiment I told myself I wasn’t going to make the same mistakes I made in my previously relationship which was ignoring the red flags because of the fear of the relationship feeling,” he shared.

“The reason why I’m feeling this is because I feel like Carina isn’t her full self with me sometimes. I worry that sometimes Carina will put on a happy mask because she really cares and worries about how she’s being perceived. I feel like she wasn’t to be perceived as the perfect conservative girl.”

He then went on to provide examples of this, such as saying she’s “not in tattoos” but “has some and that her celebrity crush is almost covered from head to toe”.

Mid honesty letter read, Carina told producers in a piece to camera that she was shocked by Paul’s honesty.

“If anyone is sweeping things under the rug, he clearly is, because he hasn’t brought any of those things up to me,” Carina shared.

Paul eventually dropped the Cleo bomb!!!! However, he chickened out about the “snob” comment but the producers were messy enough to show the word in his letter, blurring out the other text.

Paul then skipped it completely, and went on to say the Carina “can come across as very judgy”. YIKESSSSS.

“Bit of a slap in the face. A bit of shock,” Carina shared.

Carina went on to explain her “calibre” comment, telling Paul that she felt defensive when she found out that he had a romantic history with Awhina’s twin sister.

“So the whole Cleo thing, it’s obviously going to make me feel a certain way when my husband has been with a girl that’s in the experiment and had a thing with her sister, so that’s gonna put my guard up. I’m gonna be a bit defensive ‘cos it’s awkward,” Carina shared before Paul chimed, reminding her, “[Awhina’s] sister is not even there.”

Carina shuts down, telling Paul that she’s “processing” the honesty letter, to which he replied, “is that your happy mask?”

(That comment rubbed me in the wrong way because a girl is literally trying to process what he just said BUT ANYWAYS.)

The pair eventually kissed, to which he apologised, saying he “didn’t mean to offend her”. However, when he left the room, Carina picked up the letter and saw the “snob” comment. OUCHIESSSSS.

When producers asked Paul if he left anything out, Paul said no.

“I genuinely, no. Did I miss anything?” Paul asked the producers before the camera cut to Carina pointing out the word “snob “. Uh oh.

Thank god for MAFS editing, but I wish they played the part where he said she gave him the “ick”. I need a reaction to that!!!
